Mission Statement:

The Temple Fire Company's mission is to protect life and property from loss, suffering, and damage due to fire, medical, and environmental emergencies within the community through public education, community involvement, and incident response.

The Temple Fire Company is a volunteer fire department which not only provides the obvious function of fire suppression, but also provides numerous other prevention and protection tasks. These tasks include emergency medical response, public information, fire safety inspections, public education, a fire prevention program within the Muhlenberg Township School District, fire training, as well as communication, facility, apparatus and equipment maintenance.

 

The Annual Ontelaunee Energy Facility Drill

Today was the Annual Ontelaunee Energy Facility drill held at the Ontelaunee Energy Facility Center. Every year they are kind enough to hold a drill to simulate an incident so we can better operate if there were to be an actual incident. This year we were dispatched to a hazmat and rescue incident. Upon arrival on the scene Deputy 11-1 Eric Reinhart jumped on command of staging and with the assist of Company 37 we took care of the incident in very quick timing.


 
   
   
ELEVEN ASSISTS ON TRAILER FIRE
At 1610hrs on June 6th, companies 12, 32, 11 and, 45 were dispatched to 111 E. Wesner Rd. in Maiden Creek Township for a reported structure fire.  Chief 12 arrived, confirming a working fire and the first engine to go in service.  Engine 11-1 arrived on location and assisted with suppression and overhaul.  The company cleared the scene at 1733hrs after being released by Chief 12.

BURNIN' IT UP
On Saturday June 6th, members of the "Eleven House" participated in a joint structural burn session with companies 13 and 10. The companies trained on fire attack, search and rescue, forcible entry, stand-pipe, and ventilation techniques in a commercial setting on a mid rise level. A special thanks to "The Fightin 13" for organizing a SPECTACULAR  training experience for all three companies.  Looking forward to the next one.

The officers and firefighters would like to congratulate Jr. FF. Zach Ribble on his graduation From high school. Zach will be leaving sometime in July for the US Air Force. On behalf of the company, good luck and be safe.  


 
STRUCTURE AT MHS
On Tuesday June 2nd at 1452hrs, the structure assignment was requested by MTPD for a fire at the Muhlenberg HS. Initial report of smoke in room 210. Companies 11, 10, 13 and 85 for RIT were first due. Chief 10 provided the first interior report of smoke on the second floor and declared it a working fire. Engine 11-1 crew led off with tools / extinguishers and hi-rise pack while Ladder 10 set up to the roof. Engine 13 acquired hydrant and sent manpower to assist E11-1 with and primary search and suppression. Deputy11-1 arrived on scene and established MHS Command. Further investigation revealed a smoke coming from a self contained combination heating / cooling unit in an unoccupied classroom. Pull station and smoke detector were activated, building was evacuated and confirmed with a secondary search. Energy was isolated to the unit. Companies ventilated the structured and monitored the heat on the failed unit, confirmed (-) extension. Incident placed under control at 1517. Building was turned over to School District Building and Grounds.

MULTI ALARM FIRE AT EXIDE CORP.
At 2045 hrs. companies 10, 13, 11 & 85 for RIT were dispatched to Exide Batteries Corp. for a structure fire. The incident quickly grew to numerous alarms bringing in City of Reading companies and numerous Berks County Volunteer Fire Companies. More info on this incident will follow soon.

EARLY MORNING STRUCTURE IN 1ST DUE AREA
On April 18th @ 0348hrs. Companies 11, 10, 13 & 85 for RIT, were dispatched to 1139 Mt. Laurel Road for a reported structure fire.  Muhlenberd PD was on location reporting a working fire with flames visible. Deputy 11-1 was the first fire officer on location confirming a working fire and everyone evacuated from the structure.  Engine 11-1 was first apparatus on location and proceeded to lay a supply line from a nearby hydrant. Engine 11-1's crew then stretched initial attack lines into the building.  Rescue 11's crew performed the primary search which was negative.  Engine 13 completed the hyrdant hook-up and crews from Ladder 10 placed ground ladders and also opened up the roof above the involved area. Company 85 RIT (Spring) stood by incase of any fireground emergencies arose. Fire was deemed under control @ 0425hrs. After extensive salvage and overhaul companies cleared the scene @ approx. 0530hrs.


 
   
   
EARLY MORNING GARAGE FIRE IN MAIDENCREEK TOWNSHIP
On Thursday, April 9th at 0354 hrs. Company 11 was dispatched to assist Companies 12 & 32 at 302 East Wessner Road for a working structure fire.  Chief 12 was first on location reporting a working fire with heavy fire showing on the 2nd floor and fire through the roof of a detached 2 story garage.  Company 45 (Fleetwood) was then requested to assist. Company 12 (Blandon) firefighters had the initial attack, however 2 additional lines were stretched from Engine 11-1 to help quell the fire.  Temple firefighters also assisted with overhaul operations. Company 11 returned to station at 0601 hrs.

STRUCTURE FIRE AT CHINESE RESTAURANT
On Tuesday, April 7th at 1946 hrs. companies 10, 11 & 13 were dispatched to 3401 North Fifth Street Hwy. at the China Wok for a reported structure fire. Chief 10 confirmed a working fire at the roof line on Side D. Company 85 was then dispatched for RIT.  Temple Firefighters assisted with fire attack and overhaul operations. Quick work by all members kept the fire from extending to the rest of the structure. Company 11 cleared the scene at 2041 hrs.

The cab and chassis of the new Rescue 11 is nearly completed. Just a few things remain to be installed at Spartan Motors, which is located in Charlotte, MI.  The cab and chassis is expected to be shipped by the end of March to Rescue 1 Emergency Vehicles which is located in Manasquan, NJ where the rescue body will be constructed and placed on the chassis.  The new Rescue 11 is expected to be delivered late 2009.


 
MULCH FIRE CAUSES SMOKE IN THE BUILDING
On Tuesday, March 17th at 2050 hrs. Companies 10, 11 & 13 were dispatched to 1100 Commons Blvd. at Tiger Drylac for reported smoke in the building.  Engine 11-1 arrived on location and crews entered the structure to find a light haze and odor of something burning.  Investigation of the interior with a TIC and Heat Guns proved negative. A small mulch fire was found along the exterior of the building which had caused the odor / smoke condition inside the structure. Firefighters extinguished the fire and checked for extension, which was negative while Ladder 10 used smoke ejectors to ventilate the building.  Company 11 cleared the scene at 2154 hrs.


 
LEESPORT BORO STRUCTURE FIRE
On Sunday, March 15th at 1247 hrs. Companies 37, 38, 11 & 40 were dispatched to 240 Main Street in Leesport Boro for a reported structure fire.  Chief 37 arrived on location reporting a working structure fire and requested Ladder 12 be added to the assignment.  Temple firefighters assisted with advancing hose lines to the second and third floors, fire suppression and overhaul, thus exposing numerous hidden fires in the walls and ceiling.  Company 11 returned to service at 1515hrs.


 
   
   
STRUCTURE FIRE WITH MAYDAY / FIREFIGHTER RESCUE

On Thursday, March 12th at 0504 hrs. Companies 10, 11 & 13 were dispatched to 4117 Kinder Drive for reported smoke from the residence. Chief 11 was first on location reporting smoke showing, then confirmed a working fire. Company 85 (Spring) was then dispatched for RIT. Engine 10 arrived on location and stretched the initial attack line to Side D to extinguish the fire which could be seen at the basement ceiling. Engine 11-1's crew stretched another hose line from Engine 10 to the front door. Temple firefighters then encountered heavy fire conditions on the first floor and advanced the interior attack line to the rear of the building when FF J. Stoudt partially fell through the floor which had been weakened by fire conditions below.  Almost immediately, FF C. Stoudt transmitted the MAYDAY and began to rescue FF J. Stoudt while being injured in the process. LT Derrick Weand and Deputy 10 Chief Dean Yeager assisted with removing both firefighters from the collapsed area.  Chief 10 then requested the next alarm which brought Company 55 (Greenfields) and Tower 79 (Wyomissing).  FF J. Stoudt was un-injured while FF C. Stoudt received burns to his lower extremeties. Fire was contained to the first floor with only smoke and heat damage to the rest of the building.  After extensive overhaul, Company 11 cleared the incident at 0744hrs.

Temple Fire Company would like to thank Ladder 12 and Engine 37 for re-locating to Station 11 to cover our 1st due area.    


 
RESCUE 11 SPECIAL CALLED FOR MVA WITH CONFINEMENT
On Monday, March 9th at approx. 0815 hrs. Rescue 11 was special called to assist Companies 37 & 40 in Ontelaunee Township on Mohrsville Rd. near Route 61 for a motor vehicle accident with confinement.  Temple firefighters arrived while extrication was in progress and assisted with patient removal and packaging. Rescue 11 cleared the scene around 0840 hrs. 


 
   
   
WORKING STRUCTURE FIRE IN BERN TOWNSHIP
On Sunday, February 19th at 2230hrs. Companies 55, 30, 37, 11 & 85 for RIT were dispatched to the 900 Block of Center Road in Bern township for a possible structure fire, Captain 37 arrived first on location confirming a working fire. Engine 11-1 was assigned the duty of water supply by means of drafting from a nearby pond. Rescue 11 reported directly to the fire building and Temple firefighters assisted with ventilation, and overhaul. Later Engine 11-1's crew reported to the fire building to aid in overhaul operations. Company 11 cleared the scene at approx. 0100hrs.
