At 1330 hours, Companies 10, 11, & 560 were dispatched to an area of woods behind the Reading Expo Center on the upper parking lot off of North 13th street for a reported MVA with unknown injuries and a report of a possible vehicle fire. Police and EMS arrived and confirmed a car was in the woods and it was fully involved. Units confirmed that the driver was still inside the car. Rescue 11 and Engine 11-1 arrived and went into service while Deputy 11-1 worked to try and rescue the driver from the car. While attempting the rescue, Deputy 11-1 suffered 2nd degree burns to his ear, suffered exhaustion and was transported to RHMC for treatment where he was released just a short time later. The driver unfortunately did not survive from his injuries. During this incident, Tanker 13 was requested for water supply.
A great job to all for their efforts in this unusual incident.
Company 11 was back in station @ 1702 hours.
